All stakeholders in our community were involved in the creation of our whole school children’s rights charter. This was designed to explore all rights in more depth and also develop our shared understanding of the language of rights. The programme of activities involved all young people and staff working collaboratively to examine the UNCRC Articles, with this focusing on those key rights we felt should be included in our charter.
We then agreed on how both rights-holders and duty-bearers would respect these rights in our daily life. Our Charter underwent several designs and was combined with our work on diversity and equality, with every young person completing activities on the Equalities Act protected characteristics. These have been incorporated into our completed charter.
Our charter now stands alongside and fully supports the vision, values and aims of St Mungo’s Academy.
