Parent Council Meeting Minute

24 April 2017, 7pm

 

 

  1. Review of Parental Survey

KEY REFLECTIONS:

  • 96 responses made online
  • Emerging email list of parents who are keen to be informed; some parents don’t have email so feedback also needs to be made available on website
  • Some concerns raised through the survey that may be more appropriate made to the school as complaints
  • Parents seem keen to participate in a variety of ways in the life of the school

ACTIONS

  •  PMcW to discuss complaints mechanism for parents with Senior Leadership Team
  • Survey feedback to be made available on the website and emailed to those who provided an address; links and excerpts to be posted on social media:
    • Summary report and list of actions/responses to be emailed to JBradley (PMcWatt)
    • Feedback to be sent by email to parents  (JBradley)
    • Website updated (PMcWatt/SKelly)
    • Social media content (JBradley)
    • Check if webstats are available (PMcWatt/SKelly)
  • Parent learning events to be taken forward:
    • 2 sessions to be organised a fortnight apart
      • 1 – teen mental health and behaviour (PMcW to look into speakers)
      • 2 – Internet safety and anti-bullying (PMcW to look into speakers)
      • Literacy input at both (PMcW to discuss with literacy coordinator)
  • Parent Council needs to be formalised at the AGM on 15th May with a constitution and key role-bearers to allow some suggestions to be taken forward.
  • the following:
    • Bank account to be accessed to pay for events, venues, translators, childcare (as required)
    • Roles: chair; vice-chair; secretary; treasurer; church rep; other relevant co-opted members
    • Times of future meetings (e.g. every second Monday)
    • Venues to be scoped (Bridgeton Learning Centre and others) (JHillhouse)

       

  1. Review of Draft Parent Council Constitution

KEY REFLECTIONS:

  • General agreement that the draft constitution was clear and concise
  • Query about the need to state a minimum number that there should be at meetings and within the parent council
  • Query about who the church rep

 

ACTIONS:

  • Aims of the parent council to be updated in light of feedback from the survey (JBradley)

    1. AGM – 15th May
      • Let to be arranged (PMcWatt)
      • 3 locations to be prepared for various numbers (PMcWatt)
      • Enquire about other groups of parents who engage with the school to send out specific invites (PMcWatt)
      • AGM briefing pack to be prepared for emailing/publishing on website by Tuesday 2nd May :
        1. Invitation to parents to attend and also for volunteers to translate and/or inform us that a translator is required
        2. Description of office-bearers duties (JBradley)
        3. Updated draft constitution for review and approval (JBradley)
        4. Agenda
          • Review and approve constitution

The following points were postponed for discussion until the planning meeting on 12th June; GCC rep should also be invited to this (AMilton)
