As in primary, children’s language is looked at in terms of the four communication skills: reading, writing, talking and listening. During their first three years at St. Mungo’s Academy, pupils will have practice in all four and their progress will be assessed at various points in the year.

Challenging activities are used to provide an integrated and coherent programme of work in order to develop these skills.

They will also be encouraged to read for pleasure from S1 to S3 and beyond with regular visits to our well stocked school library.

From English we also seek to develop links with other subjects, working together on projects. This inter-disciplinary approach is evolving and, through the experience, pupils should become more aware of the central importance of literacy across all areas of the curriculum.
