Welcome to P.E

St-Mungo’s Academy P.E Department Blog can be found here - http://stmungospe.edublogs.org/

The aim of the P.E Department is that pupils are offered a broad, balanced and progressive curriculum that will encompass:
  • an introduction to the importance of health and sport related fitness.
  • the opportunity to develop aspects of creativity through gymnastics and dance
  • Developing social skills, which promote acceptable standards of behaviour and positive attitudes to self and others.
  • The development of skills such as leadership, communication and working well with others in a team.
  • Developing attitudes which will encourage participation in and enjoyment of life long physical activity

Expectations and top tips about how to be successful in your subject

The P.E Department aims to bring out the best in every pupil. Pupils should aim to work hard within every activity aiming to have fun and improve their performance skills and fitness.

In St-Mungo’s Academy all pupils are expected to attend P.E with full P.E kit for every lesson. Pupils who are unable to participate due to injury/ill health should still remember to bring their kit and are expected to get changed in order that they can assist within the lesson. P.E kit should also be worn within extra-curricular activities.

All pupils are issued with a St-Mungo’s Academy P.E t-shirt within S1 and a day for wearing this t-shirt will be assigned to each class. If a new t-shirt is required pupils can purchase these within the P.E Department.

To keep healthy and active pupils should aim to-

  • be as active as possible – a target of one hour per day is the Scottish Government’s suggestion.
  • join extra-curricular clubs in school
  • use local facilities and sports clubs
  • eat healthily and drink plenty of water.

Why is PE exciting?  i.e what can you use it for?

Physical Education offers you the chance to exercise, play games in a variety of activities, compete in teams and individually, learn about different rules in activities, improve your communication and leadership skills, learn how the body works and be creative within gymnastics/dance and even games!

P.E should be fun and promotes the benefits of fitness for life. Physical Activity is vital as you progress into a healthy young adult !!

There are a variety of exciting events for our pupils throughout the year year-group competitions in activities such as athletics, badminton, basketball and dodgeball. Charity events such as the 1 mile run, santa dash and the woman’s 10k. We all also have fun sports days for our s1 and s2 pupils in the summer.

Modern day Physical Education consists of certificated courses which offer UCAS accredited pathways in to Higher and further education.

Hopefully our young people will be inspired to continue exercising  as they progress in their chosen career and maybe even choose health, fitness or sport as a possible career option !
