Higher Grade P.E
Pupils who have attained a Standard Grade award or national 4/5 award can opt to continue PE studies at Higher/intermediate 2 depending on their performance and P.E knowledge within S3 and 4 .
Higher P.E involves practical assessment and an external exam. The practical activities are Badminton, Basketball and Hockey (specifically looking at Preparation of the Body/fitness). Written assessments papers, class tests (nabs) and prelim exams during the session are used to finalise the level of presentation prior to the main exams in May/June.
Sports/Dance Leadership:
Pupils with a specific interest in P.E who wish to improve their overall leadership skills and perhaps look towards a career in sports coaching have the option of completing a level 1 / 2 sports leadership course.
This involves pupils developing specific leadership skills such as communication, planning and organisation as well as improving specific sport coaching knowledge. Pupils are assessed in leading s1/2 pupils in a warm-up, skills practices and games within a variety of different activities.
Pupils successful in completing this course normally achieve a level 1 or 2 sports leadership award, first aid certificate and a variety of governing body coaching awards in activities such as basketball and football.
There may also be the opportunity to complete a similar award through dance in S4 or s5.
